New Melle Police Department to kick off D.A.R.E. Program at Daniel Boone Elementary

 

[New Melle, MO] – The New Melle Police Department will be starting the D.A.R.E. program in January at Daniel Boone Elementary.  The program was released to the Police Department from the Sheriff June of last year. Sgt. Robert Bodley of the New Melle Police Department will be facilitating the program.

 

Sgt. Robert Bodley, a 13 year veteran of police work has been a certified D.A.R.E. Officer since 2004. Sgt. Bodley is also certified as a School Resource Officer and G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education And Training) Instructor.

·     1,000 new communities started D.A.R.E. in the last three years

·     75% of USA school districts and 43 countries teach D.A.R.E.

·     75,000+ D.A.R.E. Officers trained/certified throughout USA

·     $12 per child from K through 12 for all educational materials (as a non-profit D.A.R.E. is the most affordable program available 

 

THE PROGRAM

 

·     Focuses on responsibility, resisting peer pressure

·     Training mandatory for instructors before they enter the classroom

·     Study recently published in the Journal of the National Medical Association demonstrates that the D.A.R.E. curriculum is highly effective in the prevention of smoking. Students that completed the D.A.R.E. program were five times less likely to start smoking compared to youngsters who did not participate in D.A.R.E.

 

“Kids today grow up in a complex and confusing world. Through television, movies, music, and, most of all, peers, our kids are exposed to drugs at a very early age,” said Sgt Bodley.  “The solution is education. D.A.R.E. gives our children the tools they need to resist drugs and make the right choices.”
